Mattressphere

from Parcel Post EP by Metamono

about

Mattressphere is the astonishing lead track on Parcel Post. At over eleven minutes, it’s Metamono’s longest released track, riding cliffhanger bass propulsion and hyperactive four-four heart-beat through a swirling hall-of-mirrors gamut of glistening synthesised resonance, abrupt twists and weightless drop sequences, peppered with the results of Mark‘s Holger Czukay-style trawling through his valve radio, including a show about sleep and what sounds like aliens swapping porn. Throughout this joyous rollercoaster, the mood is relentlessly upbeat, even mischievous; an electronically-birthed monster in the proper sense.
The edit was originally created for a cassette-only DJ set Metamono sprayed at a wildly diverse Brixton pub crowd, which reacted so strangely they decided to keep it intact. Jono recalls how “a vertically challenged gentleman started punching me in the leg shouting “C'mon you little cunt, I'll have you…!” In short a Hieronymous Bosch appeared before our eyes. There's something truly bonkers in this groove that goes straight for the central nervous system.”

The manifesto was agreed upon. ... more
