Based in Crystal Palace, London, UK, Metamono are musicians Paul Conboy and Jono Podmore (also known as Kumo, the name with which he works with Can's Irmin Schmidt), and artist Mark Hill. All of them have built or preserved their own instruments, soldering together latterday mechanical mutations from equipment too prematurely discarded by capitalism's hellbent tendency towards planned obsolescence.

And now, their debut album, their most fully realised and advanced recording to date, a double vinyl release, a showcase of Metamono's philosophy, physical and emotional range and immense capabilities. Each of its four sides are practically colour-coded, each expressing a facet of the group's work and highly characterful character.

So, Side One, captures the group's cosmically playful effervescence, as if they heard the new worlds Joe Meek captured as far back as 1960 and refused to let them pass them by. Side Two, however, reveals a less familiar, less blistering, more introspective and chilled aspect of Metamono, a more than pleasant surprise for their old fans. Side Three and we get a dose of acid Metamono, even if the group have mastered the art of persuading crowds to dance itchily to banging tunes with asymmetric time signatures. Finally, Side Four, in which Metamono reach to the outer limits of their capacity, the far side.

You hear new worlds, calling you. It's the smiling, sublime sound of Metamono, the sound of yestermorrow, today.
